What it does: Manufacturing and recycling of packaging paper products.

Best known for: FajarPaper is one of the biggest packaging paper manufacturers in Southeast Asia. Their annual production capacity reaches 1.3 million metric tonnes.

Staff stats: Between 1,000 and 5,000 employees.

The good bits: The company’s salaries for entry-level roles such as accounting staff and quality control officers are higher than the industry average.

The not so good bits: Graduates who finished their degrees at a later age may find it difficult to apply for a job at FajarPaper. Some roles have an age limit like business process analysts, which require candidates to be not more than 27 years old.

The FajarPaper story

Winarko Sulistyo and Airlangga Hartarto founded the company in 1987. FajarPaper went public on the Indonesian Stock Exchange by 1994 and gained its first ISO certification in 2003. The company’s total production capacity of 1.3 million metric tonnes per year makes them one of the biggest packaging paper manufacturers in Southeast Asia.

FajarPaper’s product portfolio includes Kraft Liner Board and Corrugated Medium Paper for carton-box packaging and Coated Duplex Board for display packaging. The manufacturer uses clean natural gas for its power plants and recycled paper for their products. SCGP Solutions (Singapore) Pte Ltd and PT Intercipta Sempana are among the company’s shareholders, aside from public and other investors.

The recruitment process

FajarPaper warns applicants of job scam alerts when applying for jobs at the company. You should only visit the company’s website or apply online at legitimate job portals. The company also advised that no travel agency, transportation company or other third-party groups were appointed to recruit on FajarPaper’s behalf.

Career prospects

Business process analysts and marketing executives are some of the entry-level jobs at the company. FajarPaper encourages fresh graduates to apply as business process analysts, although the company prefers individuals with at least one year of experience in the manufacturing audit field. Applicants must be 27 years old or below and willing to work in West Cikarang.

Marketing executives should be between 20 and 30 years old. FajarPaper requires them to have diplomas or bachelor's degrees in engineering, economics or marketing with a minimum GPA of 2.75. You must be fluent in English to be considered for the role. Those who graduated from overseas universities and have at least two years of experience in the packaging industry will stand out from the competition. Fluency in Mandarin fluency will be an advantage as well.

Jobs that require one to five years of experience include accounting and purchasing staff, cost accounting, export and import staff, IT helpdesk and network staff, IT programmers, legal officers and power plant foremen.

Remuneration

There’s little information about the company’s compensation structure for entry-level roles. Accounting staff and quality control officers earn IDR 4 million on average per month. The monthly average salary in Indonesia’s manufacturing industry was IDR 2.65 million as of 2019.

The culture

Most employees feel satisfied with the compensation and learning opportunities, although work-life balance tends to be compromised. Some foremen recommend FajarPaper to fresh graduates, especially in power plant operations due to the company’s need to develop facilities. Graduates who are environment-conscious will also like FajarPaper’s sustainable practices for all products.

The competition

FajarPaper’s peers in the packaging industry include April Fine Paper, PT Pabrik Kertas Noore Indonesia and PT Eco Paper Indonesia.

Social contributions

FajarPaper’s raw materials originate from 100 per cent paper waste. Box makers, converters, end-users and waste collectors comprise 50 per cent of the local waste material sources. The other half comes from overseas including Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Singapore and the USA.

Their daily consumption of recycled paper reaches around 2,000 tonnes from more than 500 truck deliveries. Other corporate social responsibility projects are charitable donations for orphans, schools, Hari Raya Idul Adha and Idul Fitri, and education scholarships and volunteerism among employees.

The vibe of the place

FajarPaper considers environment-friendliness and sustainability to be among the core parts of their operations. Fresh graduates will be proud to work for a company that values the importance of green manufacturing practices, aside from learning a lot from reusing paper waste. Not everyone, however, has the chance to join FajarPaper because of an age limit for certain roles. An unhealthy work-life balance may be a problem as well if you work in the production department.
